How can you really be happier?
A few steps that will make a HUGE difference
I am not talking about positive thinking I am talking about training your mind to see, hear and feel differently about life. Once you do that your life can become amazing! The Toltec Tradition talks about three masteries: awareness, transformation and intent. Fully harness them and anything is possible.
1. Expand your awareness
All of our emotions are created by what we tell ourselves about what is happening. We never see life directly, what we see is our projection of what we believe is happening. The first step is to allow yourself to be aware of that fact and practice consciously choosing to expand your awareness of your inner dialog.
Life is and then we tell ourselves a story. It is the story that creates our emotional response. We are constantly reacting to our story about life, not life itself. The more aware we are of the story the easier it is to change. Once we consciously choose our story we can choose happiness instead of misery on a regular basis.
2. Now ask yourself a few new questions
Habitually we tend to ask ourselves questions like:
Why did this happen to me?
What did I do to deserve this?
Or we make observations like:
Life isn’t fair.
That is so wrong!
Start asking yourself questions like:
Do I want to be right or do I want to be happy?
How can I see this differently?
What can I tell myself that will create a sense of joy and ease right now?
3. Decide how you want to feel
Happiness is simply a matter of deciding how you want to feel and telling yourself a story that will produce that feeling.
But isn’t that denial? The truth is the truth!
Actually the truth is relative. I suggest you adopt a new paradigm in life, one that allows you to feel peace of mind, loved and makes it easier to create what you want when you want it. I’ve talked about it before. For a lack of a better name I call it dominion. If you go to my website and type in dominion in the search box you will find podcasts and articles galore.
In the paradigm of dominion our vision of life becomes expansive. In dominion, everyone is part of a greater whole, everyone is an equal and integral part of the circle of life. We are no longer residing in an either/or situation; the whole and the person become one. A person truly living in dominion cannot make a choice that will harm another. Rather than being fear-based, dominion is based in love, unconditional love for the self and all other beings great and small.
So happiness is simply a matter of retraining your mind to see the world through the eyes of love instead of fear. And what an amazing difference that makes. Thankfully you really don’t have to change your entire life in order to be happy you just need to retrain your mind.
