As I sit here at my computer writing this post my favorite wind chime is singing joyously. There is a strong wind so it is really ringing. That sound brings me joy because I love its deep throated tone. I had a neighbor in Vermont who would sneak over and stuff the wind chime with paper because she hated the noise. What brought me joy annoyed her.
So how do you define joy? ecstasy?
What brings you joy? What really makes your heart sing? When we align ourselves with our spirit joy becomes our state of being.
Would you like to know a secret? We can train our mind to become our inner compass always aligning our thoughts and helping us follow our spirit’s guidance. Our mind can become a virtual bliss machine once we release our old limiting beliefs, agreements and assumptions.
It’s all a matter of how we focus our attention
Is the glass half empty or half full? Here are a few things you can do on a regular basis to rev up your bliss factor.
- Start paying attention to your inner dialog. When you notice you are focusing on things that cause you to see an empty glass change the dialog. Take a deep breath and choose a different perspective.
- The questions we ask ourselves have a huge impact on our experience of life. Ask yourself: How can I see this through the eyes of love?
- Breathe deeply and think about things that bring you joy.
- Ask yourself: How can I bring more love and joy to this situation?
- Make a list of nurturing things, things you can do that feed your soul. Make a commitment to do at least one a day.
- Reach out and help others. Buy lunch for a homeless person, pick up liter as you walk along, smile and say hello to people, volunteer. By giving we receive.
- Speak to yourself and others lovingly.
- Send your inner judge on vacation.
- Greet the day with gratitude and joy.
- Smile a lot.

Susan, this post has brought me joy! I absolutely love your inspirational thoughts and so appreciate that you give of yourself so freely! Keep doing what you do….I am feeling so much joy in my life right now yet I don’t have many of the ‘things’ which most people would consider necessary for a joyful life….no job, no primary relationship…but I do have good friends, children who love me and I adore and love them…and dreams!!! Oh and my two little dogs…yes life is very good! When we learn to love ourselves unconditionally, love flows into our lives. xoxo
Aloha Neide,
Glad you are allow joy to flow – we really don’t need those external things to experience happiness, joy and bliss.
Loving yourself really is the key.
Sending you a BIG hug,
Susan
Susan, this is such a joyful and loving post, just what I needed on this rainy day in Maryland. I know what you mean about wind chimes, I love them, but many do find them annoying.
Marsha
Thanks Marsha for sharing.
One day I was flying somewhere. It had been a long long rainy spell. As the plane flew through the clouds the brightness of the sun was almost overwhelming. Since then, even on a rainy day I know the sun is there just on the other side of the clouds. Sort of like joy, it is always there just waiting of us to notice.
With love, Susan
