Here in Hawaii people spend thousands of dollars on fireworks to bring in the new year. I remember going out to get the paper January 1st and the streets were red from the wrappers of the firecrackers. My animals never enjoyed those celebrations. Luckily now I live far enough away from my neighbors that the noise is minimal.
So what are you going to do to assure 2016 is the best year yet? I generally set my intent for the coming year and then lay out a path that will get me to my desired goal.
Many years ago I had three things on my list every year. Year after year I swore I was going to going to stop smoking. To be honest I don’t remember the other two but I do remember what I did to remove them from my list permanently.
I clearly saw myself the following New Years Eve celebrating being smoke free and no longer having the terrible three haunting me. I set myself up for success. I took concrete steps everyday to make the necessary changes in my life.
With my smoking I didn’t quit January 1st only to start again a few days later. I took time to review my so called failures so I could use them to create success this time. I made a list of all the ways I gave myself permission to return to smoking and when I stopped smoking I was aware of those pitfalls and avoided them.
It was really about changing my perspective. I saw my failures as an opportunity to learn more about myself. I embraced them and used them.
This short story from one of my readers illustrates that shift of consciousness nicely.
I live in a first floor flat and the week before Christmas a scaffolding company came and put scaffolding up for the roofers to put up new tiles.
Heavy rain prevented the roofers doing their job and my immediate thoughts were, “Oh no not scaffolding for Christmas, what a terrible present.”
Every day I’ve been trying to count my blessings, but in the back of my mind the same niggle has arisen over the scaffold up until today..
Today a magpie landed right outside my window on the scaffold and I realized I can use the scaffold as a giant bird table to feed the birds !
After putting some seed out almost immediately a blue tit appeared and carried off some food.
The whole experience perfectly illustrated the power of perspective. Changing the way we see things so we can be happy no matter what is happening around us.
We are limitless beings of love and light and laughter and we truly do create our reality choice by choice, thought by thought. May 2016 be the year you embrace your true nature!
